5 New Year's Resolutions For Your Home
With a new year comes renewed energy and motivation. While you probably already have plans for areas of your life you want to improve, we’d like to suggest also making some resolutions for your home. After all, this is probably where you’re going to spend a good portion of your 2020.
Make more space in your house by decluttering and organizing your belongings. Need help getting started? Here are some items you can throw out or donate right now: duplicate kitchen utensils, storage containers that are old or are missing lids, small appliances you never use, expired skincare, makeup and vitamins, mismatched socks and gloves and old newspapers and magazines.
2. Be more eco-friendly
Make 2020 the year your house goes green! It will not only help the environment but, in most cases, it’ll also help your wallet. Install low-flow showerheads, make sure your windows and front door are properly sealed, insulate your garage door, plant trees in your backyard and deep clean your central air conditioner to keep it running efficiently.
3. Pick a home improvement project
There are plenty of upgrades you can make to your home even if you don’t have a big renovation budget. Here are some ideas you can DIY: paint your bathroom or kitchen cabinets, create an accent wall with shiplap or your preferred wall treatment, update lighting fixtures or faucets or add moulding to your plain doors.
4. Get your place ready for entertaining
Is one of your resolutions to spend more time with friends and family? Then consider refreshing the areas of your home where you host people. Rearranging furniture, updating your pillows and blankets, getting a new rug and adding some plants and light fixtures is enough to make a space more inviting.
5. Spruce up the exterior
Often neglected, a fresh exterior can make a big difference for your house. Improve the curb appeal of your home by power washing the walls, deck and porch, repair chipped paint and cracks on the walls, clean out the gutters and spruce up the landscape.
A very special assistant
Dr. Andreas Schulze, SickKids Section Head of Metabolic Genetics, has a very special nursing assistant named Dorothy. Dorothy is a puppet, and makes patients like Norah feel more comfortable while at SickKids. “I wonder what the ‘oh so good’ doctor would do without me!” said Dorothy, when we asked her about their relationship. “I am the one who cheers the kids up when they are sad & don’t want to speak!” Dr. Andreas Schulze & Dorothy have known little Norah since infancy. Norah came to SickKids at just seven days-old & was diagnosed by Dr. Schulze & the metabolics team with an extremely rare condition called Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD). This meant that Norah and family needed to have reoccurring appointments with Dr. Schulze & Dorothy to monitor her condition. Coming to SickKids can be daunting, especially for a newborn, however Dr. Schulze’s very special nursing assistant puppet, Dorothy, made Norah feel much more comfortable.
Why We Give to SickKids
Born, grew up, and now raising my own daughter right here in Toronto, I have so many lasting memories of SickKids Hospital.
As one of the best children's hospitals in the world, SickKids has been fighting for kid's health since 1875. With over 80,000 emergency visits and more than 12,000 operations a year, so many families and lives have been touched upon by SickKids. On top of that, SickKids is also a leading research institute in children's health. The invention of Pablum. The first successful separation of conjoined twins. The first kidney transplant from a living donor. Discovering the gene responsible for cystic fibrosis.
From lab benches to bedsides, the health care and scientific advances are only made possible with generous donations. The Boiron Group is on a mission to raise $25,000 to help The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) continue their fight. For every referral we receive, a significant portion of our commission goes to SickKids. So, your referrals really do help the children!
